06 DAYS MYANMAR HIMALAYAN ADVENTURE
Trip code: MA-LXA6
Daily departure from Singapore or Bangkok |
|
Located
in Northern Myanmar and surrounded by an amphitheatre of
Himalayan peaks, Putao is one of the last frontiers of Myanmar.
Accessible only by air, this remote destination is also home to
many different ethnic minority tribes and is perhaps one of the
last kept secrets of Myanmar. And visitors can explore this
pristine Himalayas wilderness in the comfort of the all
inclusive Malikha Lodge.
Perched high
above the Nam Lang River with glorious views of mountains and
rice terraces, Malikha Lodge is designed by world famous
architect of Aman Resorts, aiming to create a feeling of luxury
and seclusion in this wilderness setting. Possible daytime
activities include walks to nearby villages, short jungle treks,
river diving, mountain biking, scenic raft trips and kayaking.
For the more sedate, one can simply laze on the riverside deck
or enjoy an open-air massage in the bamboo grove spa.

After a leisurely breakfast, our first
stop this morning is the Putao market, where at sunrise traders
from the outlying Rawang and Lisu villages descend to market
their vegetables, dried fish, fabrics and basket ware. You have
the opportunity to visit their homes and observe handicrafts
being produced at firsthand. There is also the chance to try a
steaming bowl of Shan noodle soup in the early morning chill and
to practice your haggling skills over spectacular Rawang village
headman woven hats, colourful sarongs and fine baskets.
Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, we shall
enjoy a short trek into the forested hills, with the special
option of an hours trek by elephant through terraced fields and
pockets of jungle. Enjoy sweeping views over the whole Putao
Valley. Before long we descend into the Namlang Valley where our
kayaks and river guide will be waiting. From there it is a
leisurely half hour’s kayak through occasional gentle rapids
back to the lodge on the clear and fast flowing waters of the
Nam Lang River. |
|
Another adventure awaits today with a
scenic river gorge cruise and a visit to the picturesque village
of Manchanbaw. From there we venture downstream by long tail
boat onto the Malikha River through forested hills and past
white river beaches, where villagers may often be seen panning
for gold. A picnic lunch is prepared in a spectacular riverside
beach inside the gorge, before our return by vehicle to the
lodge in time for sunset.
Note: The above activities are just some of our
recommendations. Depending on your interests, there are other
exciting half day or full day excursions to choose from.
