ITINERARY IN DETAILS:
DAY 1 JINGHONG - DAMENLONG – MENGSONG - TREKKING (-L,D)
Pick-up at your hotel and drive to Damenglong with visit of a Dai village and White Pagoda at Manfeilong. After lunch at Menglong, transfer to Mengsong on the top of a mountain and close to Myanmar border where several Aini villages are scattered. Start trekking through Aini villages and primitive forests (around 3 hrs) to Yakou village of the Aka minority. Lunch at local restaurant and dinner with local minority family in the village. Overnight in the village.
DAY 2 TREKKING (B,L,D)
Continue trekking (around 8 hours) through dense subtropical forest and on a diversified trail going up and down. Today, you will have the opportunity to stay and share life with Aini minority villagers. The Aini group, also called Hani, is the second largest ethnic group in Xishuangbanna after the Dai. Although the mainstream religion is Buddhism, they practice their own worships and animism. Breakfast and picnic lunch en route and dinner with local farmers' family. Overnight in the village.
DAY 3 TREKKING (B,L,D)
Start today’s adventure with a tractor ride for 1 hour to Bulangshan Mountain. Continue trekking through the Bulang Mountains to Bulang villages (around 7 hours). The Bulangs' houses are usually built in bamboo and supported by wooden poles. They once had their own beliefs and practiced their worships but Hinayana Buddhism which has been introduced in their area by Dai monks, is largely spread. Men still have tattoos on their legs, backs, chests and arms. A Bulang male who had not spent time in a monastery or who did not have a tattoo on his body could not marry in ancient times. Breakfast, picnic lunch en route and dinner with local families. Overnight in the village.
DAY 4 TREKKING (B,L,D)
Continue trekking to Nanwen village of Bulang through Bakanan Lahu minority village (around 8 hours). The Lahus originate from the North West of Yunnan and made their way southwards between the 10th and the 17th century. Breakfast, picnic lunch en route and dinner with local families. Overnight in the village.
DAY 5 TREKKING - MENGHU - JINGHONG (B,L,D)
Continue trekking through the monks praying room, visit the White Temple at Zhuangxing (around 2 hours). Lunch at Menghu before driving back to Jinghong. Breakfast, lunch at local restaurant. Special dinner of Dai people. Overnight at hotel in JInghong.
DAY 6 JINGHONG - DEPARTURE (B)
