Overview

If there is anywhere in the world that symbolizes the tragedy of war, it is the famous bridge over the River Kwai. Here, during the 2nd World War, to assist their planned attack on India, the Japanese constructed a railway line from Thailand to Burma cutting through the scenic Three Pagodas Pass. Prisoners of War (POWs) and Asian labourers were forced to work on the construction of the railway with thousands losing their lives or subject to torture. At Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, around 7,000 POWs are buried. Another 2,000 are laid to rest at the Chungkai Cemetery.

Our short cruise on the Kwai River provides the opportunity to understand this painful, yet compelling, period of history much covered in film and literature – and allow you to pay your own respects. In addition, you will enjoy relaxed exploration of this beautiful area as you meander through scenery of waterfalls, hot springs, cliffs as well as visiting ancient Thai and Khmer ruins and temples.
